Pros: It flows simpler in cold weather, thus no loss of prime when the oil is cold.
Also, it is highly immune to viscosity breakdown (the capability of the oil to flow simply in all temps) from heat, friction, chemical pollutants. Longer change intervals: five thousand – 7,000 miles between oil changes (compared to 3,000 for regular oil).  Double the manufacturers recommend interval between oil changes for Motorcycles.

Cons: Cost is twice as much as traditional oil per quart. However it lasts better, so that the tangible cost increase is nearer to fifty – sixty %. Flows simply, thus not endorse to be used on high mileage engines; nor do I would recommend using it in new engines in the break-in period because it’s so greasy and significantly restricts the wearing of new mating parts in the engine. This first wearing of parts is what makes for correct engine break-in, sealing of piston rings, mating of camshafts and lifters, etc.

Does it make my engine last longer? Yes, because it’s so greasy, synthetic makes for less engine wear and therefore larger engine longevity.

Do you know this?

  • I can’t say I have seen another motor oil test this complicated, ever! Motor oil comparisons that may change the way in which you change your oil. Were you aware that many motor oil filters are only efficient at removing particles bigger than forty nanometers, but one that efficiently filters particles just ten nanometers smaller will reduce engine wear by 50%?
  • Did you know which filters can do that and which ones can’t?
  • Were you aware there at least 4 motor oil makers that counsel ten thousand to 35,000 mile oil change intervals?
  • Are you aware that extended drain motor oils have been available for just about thirty years? See what brand is the leader in this motor oil comparison test. Some synthetics are not really “synthetic” at all.
  • Were you aware that many synthetic mixes are consumed virtually as simply as petrol oil, although you pay at least 2x as much for them?
  • What are the four main traits of motor oil that will probably define its performance in YOUR vehicle?
  • Do you know? If not, how are you able to be certain the oil you are using is doing its job?
  • Were you aware that acute cold can be almost as damaging to your motor oil as extraordinary heat?
  • Do you own a motorcycle? Are you paying thru the nose for 1980′s motor oil technology? Get the genuine scoop on motorcycle categorical oils, and oil change intervals.
  • You want to have the best motor oil for your engine, right? What is the scoop on these new 15w20 motor oils?

The second edition of the AMSOIL “Study of Motorcycle Oils” (part # G2156) is now available. See how 32 of the top selling motorcycle oils compare in the most critical areas of motorcycle performance. This no-frills study was designed to help consumers make informed decisions when selecting motorcycle oils. There is no hype, no sales pitch, just facts. Never before has so much information on motorcycle oils been delivered in one easy-to-understand source.

See for yourself how the full range of the most popular motorcycle oils stand up to the hot-running, hard-pounding, high RPM conditions of motorcycle applications. This complete battery of tests includes wear protection, rust protection, oxidation stability and more.

TIPS:

Regular Maintenance
Motorcycle oil becomes dirty after it’s been run through an engine for many miles. It must be changed regularly to keep the engine running properly.
Oil Type
Check your user’s manual to find the type of oil recommended by your bike’s manufacturer. All new motorcycles come with user’s manuals. If you don’t have the one for your bike, you should be able to find a copy on the internet.

External Temperatures
It’s best to always use the same type, brand and grade of motorcycle oil in your engine. The only reason to change would be if you move to a different climate. A heavier grade of oil is recommended for use in a colder climate to improve cold starting ability, while a lighter grade should be fine for a more temperate climate.
Synthetic Oil
Synthetic motorcycle oil benefits include: better fuel economy, more power, less friction, improved temperature control, longer engine life, reduced part failures and more.

Performance Oil
A racing motor oil is recommended, along with more frequent oil changes, if you will be racing your motorcycle at high speeds. You would need the cooling ability to control the high temperatures created in the engine when racing. But for normal recreational riding or commuting, increased performance oil is not necessary.

AMSOIL Ea Motorcycle Oil Filters

AMSOIL INC. revolutionized the filtration industry with its introduction of AMSOIL Ea Air and Ea Oil Filters. For the first time exclusive nanofiber technology – the same technology used in the Abrams M1 tank and other heavy duty applications – was made available for automotive applications. Now, AMSOIL has made this outstanding new technology available for motorcycles.

Nanofiber Basics
Because the nanofibers in AMSOIL Ea Motorcycle Oil Filter media are so small, there are more pores per square inch, allowing for higher dirt-holding capacity and lower pressure drop compared to traditional filter medias. Thinner media fibers produce more uniform pore size distribution, improving the filter’s overall ability to capture and retain particles.

Oil Filtration Basics
Clean oil is vital to engine performance and durability. Oil must lubricate, cool and clean the engine as it circulates. In order to remain effective, it must be filtered as it cycles. The filter is connected to the engine sump, which contains the oil pump. Full-flow filters pass all the oil output from the pump through the filter.

The function of the oil filter is to remove the contaminants introduced into the lubricating oil and prevent them from reaching sensitive engine parts without restricting normal oil flow to the various points requiring lubrication. Internal sources of contamination include wear products from the rubbing surfaces of the engine, blow-by gases leaking past the rings of the pistons and degradation of the oil itself. A filter must perform well in the areas of efficiency, capacity, flow and life.

Ea Motorcycle Oil Filters
Ea Motorcycle Oil Filters feature a specially constructed silicone anti-drainback valve and a nitrile sealing gasket to go along with the full-synthetic Ea nanofiber media. The anti-drainback valve provides excellent protection during startup and remains flexible in all temperatures, and the nitrile sealing gasket resists chemical breakdown, providing excellent durability and ensuring long filter life. AMSOIL Ea Motorcycle Oil Filters are fluted for easy removal from the motorcycle and are available in a chrome-plated alternative to the normal black filters.

Superior Filtration
The unique construction and full-synthetic media of AMSOIL Ea Motorcycle Oil Filters allow them to provide unmatched performance in motorcycles and other power sports equipment. EaOM Filters last longer, stop smaller dirt particles and offer less restriction than other filters. Ea Motorcycle Oil Filters provide filtering efficiency of 98.7 percent at 15 microns, outperforming the best cellulose/synthetic blend media on the market. For maximum engine protection, AMSOIL recommends changing the EaOM every time you change oil.

Superior Alternative, Multiple Applications
AMSOIL Ea Motorcycle Oil Filters provide unsurpassed protection for motorcycles, ATVs, four-stroke personal watercraft, four-stroke snowmobiles and four-stroke outboards. AMSOIL is producing an initial offering of 16 Ea Motorcycle Oil Filters manufactured for the most popular power sports applications. Eight of the 16 filters are chrome plated.
